DNS Resolvers Print

  • 33

All DataPacket VPS and dedicated servers include access to our high-performance internal DNS resolvers for name resolution. These servers are built for reliability and low latency within our network.

The resolver IPs are 169.197.183.2 and 169.197.183.3. You can enter these addresses in your network settings or in the /etc/resolv.conf file if you are using Linux.

For regular server use, such as website hosting, email, or software updates, we recommend using public DNS resolvers that also help protect against malware. These types of DNS servers add an extra layer of safety by blocking known malicious sites before your server can connect to them.

Good options for this are Cloudflare’s secure DNS at 1.1.1.2 and Quad9’s secure DNS at 9.9.9.9. Using one or both of these gives your server extra protection against harmful websites and phishing domains.

If you are editing your /etc/resolv.conf file, you can simply enter:

nameserver 1.1.1.2
nameserver 9.9.9.9

If your server performs a large number of DNS lookups, such as when running a crawler, caching proxy, or data processing service that checks many hostnames per minute, our local resolvers may be a better choice.

The servers at 169.197.183.2 and 169.197.183.3 are located within our backbone network, which means they can handle high query volumes with very low response times.

For most customers, 1.1.1.2 and 9.9.9.9 are the best options because they add security and protect your server from malware.
