Docker on Shared Hosting Print

  • 44

Docker is not available on shared hosting or reseller plans. If you need Docker or other custom runtimes, choose a VPS or a dedicated server where you have full control of the operating system.

What shared and reseller hosting include

Linux shared and reseller plans are designed for standard web workloads and support PHP applications with MariaDB (MySQL) databases. Windows shared and reseller plans are tailored for Microsoft stacks and support ASP.NET sites with SQL Server databases under IIS. These environments are managed, multi-tenant platforms without root access and without the ability to run background daemons or container engines.

Why Docker isn’t offered on shared or reseller

Docker requires kernel features, background services, and elevated privileges that are not available in a multi-tenant hosting account. Allowing arbitrary containers on a shared node would affect isolation, stability, and security for other customers. For that reason container engines, custom services, and similar system-level software are outside the scope of shared and reseller plans.

Use a VPS or dedicated server for Docker

A VPS or dedicated server gives you administrator access so you can install Docker, Docker Compose, and any supporting software you need. You decide the operating system, open the ports your apps require, and manage updates, firewall rules, and resource allocation. This flexibility is the right fit for containerized applications, background workers, queues, and other custom stacks that aren’t possible on shared hosting.

Getting started

Order a VPS or dedicated server, select your preferred Linux or Windows image during checkout, and complete the install. From there you can deploy Docker and your application stack just as you would on a self-managed machine. If you’re unsure which plan size you need or want help choosing an OS image, open a ticket and our team will point you in the right direction.
